North Dakota Named Happiest State in the U.S. by Amerisleep’s Earlybird Blog
North Dakota has been named the “Happiest State in the U.S.” by Amerisleep’s Earlybird blog.
To establish the happiest states across the United States, the Earlybird blog team tirelessly analyzed data from sources such as the Better Life Index, CDC, World Population Review, Business.org, BLS.gov, and others to uncover statistics on 17 factors including depression, sleep insufficiency, health clubs, suicide rates, average working hours, income growth, divorce rate, volunteer rate, average commute time, average house size, percentage of trees covering the state, safety, number of hospitals, number of higher education places, and more.
Then, the factors were ranked using a ten point scale and further weighed by importance to yield a focus on factors including health, education, work-life balance, environment, safety housing, and income. These factors are considered key happiness factors for the study, which found that North Dakota is overall the happiest state in the entire United States.
“The Peace Garden state topped the ranking after the study found it performed well in 17 factors that contribute towards happiness, such as health, income, work-life balance and environment,” said the team at the Earlybird blog.
North Dakota ranked in the #1 spot for both health and income, #2 for education, #4 for work-life balance, #8 for environment, #23 for safety, and #24 for housing. North Dakota was found to have incurred the highest level of income growth over the past year, and the state also ranked #2 for open spaces and beauty with the highest number of national parks per square foot.
Vermont holds the second place spot for happiest states in the U.S., ranking #1 for education, #3 for health; #4 for environment, and #7 for work-life balance. Vermont ranked particularly well in health factors, which is noteworthy considering that Americans rate health as the most important factor in their happiness. Health factors also hold the highest weight in the Better Life Index.
Coming in at #3 is Nebraska, which ranked #1 for work-life balance, #4 for income, and #8 for health. The work-life balance includes aspects such as commute time, number of health clubs, and average working hours.
Rounding out the top ten are #4 South Dakota, #5 California, #6 Rhode Island, #7 Iowa, #8 Montana, #9 Oregon, and #10 Utah.
