The 24-hour “non-stop” innovation and entrepreneurship “Base Camp” for young people from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao has embraced its first anniversary of official opening! On 29th, March, 2022, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base (hereinafter referred to as the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base”) held an online event to celebrate the first anniversary of its official opening, in which hundreds of young people from Hong Kong and Macao as well as nearly 1,000 visitors took part. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, jointly established by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security and the People’s Government of Tianhe District, Guangzhou, has gradually become the “first window” for young people from Hong Kong and Macao to enhance their identity and the “first bridge” to join the Bay Area.

Grand achievement made real from an entire year of concerted efforts

Qin Hai’ou, Secretary of the Party Branch and Chairman of the Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Service Center, who is in charge of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, said that the Base constantly adheres to “national, international and exemplary” standards throughout its construction and operation, which has ensured its first year full of achievements, and as the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base has welcomed the investigation of important leaders including Han Zheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Central Political Bureau and Vice Premier of the State Council, and attracted 157 entrepreneurial projects, including 136 from Hong Kong and Macao, accounting for 86.6% of all projects, which has ranked first in China! In the meantime, special services for Hong Kong and Macao such as ones of “Hong Kong and Macao people serving Hong Kong and Macao people” and “One-to-one Business Assistance Officer” have been created in the Greater Bay Area, providing a full cycle of business incubation services for young people from Hong Kong and Macao, which has gradually made the Base the first choice for young people from Hong Kong and Macao to start their business.

“A cup of coffee” to connect all the young and ambitious souls

He Jinhua(Andy), a native of Hong Kong, is now in charge of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Department of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base and Director of the Innovation Division of the Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Service Center. Andy said: The establishment of the “Hong Kong and Macao Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Home” platform is of unprecedented significance to the building of the Hong Kong and Macao community. The platform will rely on the innovation and entrepreneurship incubation base and highlight the Hong Kong-style and Macao-style characteristics to provide support for Hong Kong and Macao youth in innovation and entrepreneurship, exchange and communication, study and training, internship and employment, etc.. The Home will also provide help for Hong Kong and Macao youth to integrate into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area so as to build a “living circle” and “circle of friends” for Hong Kong and Macao youth and attract and serve more Hong Kong and Macao youth who have been coming to the Greater Bay Area to pursue their dreams together.

Assistance from the government for instant service

“Employees and entrepreneurs are never alone with the companionship of the government all the way,” said Liu Mei, Deputy Director of the Tianhe District Labor and Employment Service Management Center. Director Liu shared a total of 11 entrepreneurship-led employment subsidies to help enterprises to reduce labor costs, including one-time business grants, business rent subsidies, entrepreneurship-led employment subsidies, guaranteed business loans, grassroots employment subsidies, living subsidies for the Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Program and other subsidy policies, covering subsidy targets, subsidy standards, and subsidy conditions. Besides there are also online real-time answers to audience queries, all of which ensured the subsidies delivered right to their doorsteps!

The next step we will be further support for young people from Hong Kong and Macao to come to Tianhe District for innovation and entrepreneurship for high-quality development. Relevant government departments are doing research for a new batch of exclusive policies that “no other districts will ever have”, “nor any better ones will be found”.

“Non-stop” entrepreneurship, for “second-to-none” experiences

“Where there is a faith in the Greater Bay Area, there is a place for you.” Li Xiaohua, founder of Visualising Program for Carbon Reduction, a Greater-bay-area-based startup form Hong Kong, said that the more mature environmental policies and convenient transportation in the Greater Bay Area is a strong appeal to her as an environmental engineer and honorary lecturer at the University of Hong Kong. It was Dr. Li’s goal to set up a platform for low-carbon sustainability education in the Greater Bay Area to support schools’ educational activities that take practical actions to reduce carbon emissions.

“With the help of the Entrepreneurship Assistance Officer, there was less hesitation on the way to start a business.” , said Wu Weichao, founder of Regional Tunnel New Media, a new-media startup from Macao, after settling in the incubation base, whose team is now on a continuously busier schedule. The settled projects of the innovation and entrepreneurship incubation base have naturally formed a small business district, where each has gained business relationship, resources and services. “Seeing such a good entrepreneurial environment which is also even rent free, we immediately decided to settle here.” Wu Weichao said.At the innovation and business incubation base, Not only did Wu Weichao successfully apply for a talent apartment, his startup also became the first among all Hong Kong and Macao enterprises in Guangzhou to have obtained a guaranteed business loan.

As the leading “1+12+N” Hong Kong and Macao Youth Innovation Base, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base is connected to one of the 12 provincial-level Hong Kong and Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Platforms – the Zhaoqing Hong Kong and Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base.

Zhaoqing Hong Kong and Macao Youth Innovation and entrepreneurship base focuses on creating a “dream factory” and an innovation “gas station” for Hong Kong and Macao Youth coming to Zhaoqing. As the representative of Zhaoqing Hong Kong and Macao Youth Innovation and entrepreneurship base in Hong Kong and Macao and founder of Minghu Information Technology Service (Zhaoqing) Co., Ltd., Dr. Tang Zhenyu expressed that it was a great opportunity for him to enjoy the local and provincial support policies for Hong Kong and Macao Youth Entrepreneurship in the bay area. As the largest city in the Greater Bay Area, Zhaoqing has beautiful natural environment and great development potential, which is also the reason why he settled in Zhaoqing Hong Kong and Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base. At the same time, he also hopes that in the future, “1 + 12 + N “Base will have more attraction to more Hong Kong and Macao youth so as for them to come to the Greater Bay Area for future career or startups.

“We welcome more young people from Hong Kong and Macao to set their dreams to fly high in the Bay Area.” Niu Fei, Vice President of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, and Deputy General Manager of the Innovation Division of the Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Service Center, said that  the recruitment of the seventh batch of startups is ready, and the recruitment for third-party innovation and entrepreneurship service agencies is also underway.
