Emmanuel Nwobodo, a passionate youth advocate for a better Nigeria, makes waves globally by rewriting the African narrative through effective leadership. He is passionate about training young people to take up critical leadership roles in contemporary society.

There is hope in the new generation of youth in Africa as youth leader Emmanuel E. Nwobodo takes up the cudgels to redefine the narrative of youth leadership in the continent and sharpen the youth’s critical role in nation-building, economic transformation, and public service.

Dubbed as the face of youth governance in Nigeria, Emmanuel Nwobodo is The Pioneer International President and founder of The Federation Of African Law Students’ (FALAS). This forward-looking Pan-African Student association serves as the apex unifying organization of all African law students. It currently enjoys membership from over 35 countries in Africa and aims to build a unified and coordinated network of African Law Students equipped with requisite exposure and knowledge, committed to developing the continent through connecting ideas, persons, and resources.

The Nigerian youth advocate previously served as National President of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), where he led the association into its Golden Era by bringing it to public admiration at the height of the pandemic.

“In response to the limitations posed by the pandemic last year, and in my capacity as the International President of the Federation of African Law Students, I formed a think-tank comprised of law student leaders across the continent to curate means of ensuring legal education in Africa is not disrupted during the period,” Emmanuel shared. From this, Emmanuel was able to ensure that law students continued to enjoy top-level education and mentorship from international legal practitioners through virtual platforms.

During his stint at the association, he met with the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who expressed his astonishment at the thoughtfulness behind the initiatives championed by Emmanuel, where he secured audience and partnership and mentorship for LAWSAN with the President of the International Bar Association, the African Bar Association, The Nigerian Bar Association, providing COVID-19 palliatives to communities, providing entrepreneurship grants, mentorship and internship opportunities for law students in his country.

The Nigerian youth advocate has organized a virtual town hall meeting that saw over 13,000 young Nigerians converse with distinguished political office holders, including the Vice President. He also secured a scholarship support grant and led other civic engagements. Through his passion for touching the lives of the younger generation, his administration at LAWSAN organized the biggest outreach by any student body in Nigeria, which was tagged #LAWSANGoesToSchool.

Emmanuel’s leadership initiatives have earned the commendation of the Federal Government of Nigeria, among other international and national legal, paralegal, and non-legal organizations, and has been featured and recognized as Africa’s Top Rated Student Leader by The People’s Accolade Law Magazine (PALM), one of Africa’s most popular widely read/celebrated magazines.

“As a leadership enthusiast and advocate for a better Nigeria, all of my stints in leadership portfolios have been pivoted towards the upliftment of social and democratic causes. I have remained a vibrant and articulate proponent of democratic ethos,” Emmanuel said.

During his spell as National President of LAWSAN, amongst other contributions, the youth leader has championed various discussions with highly placed political office holders and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the importance of true adherence to the spirit and letters of democracy and to chart ways to stamp out institutional, legal and bureaucratic encumbrances which contend against the true practice of democracy in the country.

Emmanuel seeks to reach and engage Africa’s most excluded communities and isolated social circles with education, leadership enlightenment provision of basic amenities through his work.

“Many communities in Africa do not have access to clean water. To this end, as The FALAS president, I introduced the FALAS SDGs Project, which is an initiative targeted at easing access to water for 20 communities selected across the continent in the first phase as part of contributions to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.

Emmanuel is currently applying for the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program. During the fellowship period, he intends to collaborate with his colleagues and a well-spread network of value-driven youths across the continent to establish the “African Rule of Law Advocacy Forum.”

Aside from serving as a frontline conglomerate of youths advocating for the true and thorough inculcation of the virtue of the rule of law in their respective jurisdictions, the forum shall also serve as capacity-building machinery for honing and grooming future national and continental leaders.

Emmanuel believes effective leadership is the key to unlocking the potential of African youth, and he is ready to hold the torch of light high enough for the African youth.
