The Biggest PC Gaming Stories of December 2019
The end of 2019 is upon us, with the holiday season right around the corner.
And even though most people’s focus has to getting the chance to spend more time with friends and family over this holiday break the PC gaming industry continues to bubble out story after story.
Some of the biggest news coming out of the PC gaming industry in December 2019 is the hotly anticipated launch of the seasonal Steam Winter Sales Event.
Every year, Valve offers significant discounts on some of the hottest and most popular PC games they make available through their marketplace and launcher. A number of very impressive AAA titles are available at deep discounts throughout the end of the year on Steam, with prices discounted by up to 75% off or more pretty regularly.
There are some pretty cool bundles available as part of the Winner Sales Event, too.
Google Stadia launched on November 19, 2019 (about a month ago).
The PC gaming community was very interested to see how this new cloud computing launch from a technology titan was going to go, and by most industry accounts things haven’t been going well at all.
It appears as though the service from Google was anything but fully fleshed out at the time of launch. Advertised as the “next big thing” in the world of gaming – freeing people from having to purchase any gaming hardware aside from a controller to play games – this cloud computing option has failed to meet expectations almost across the board.
The gaming library is very light (and free of exclusive titles), the overall performance and experience is lackluster with frequent network connection drops, and the user interface is anything but easy and intuitive to use except for on mobile devices with tiny screens.
It’ll be interesting to see how things shake out going forward, though.
Lastly, the folks at AMD have had new benchmark data leaked about the upcoming refresh of the Ryzen APU product lineup. Their latest APU – the 4700U – benchmarks look like this flagship processor is going to be a direct competitor to the latest Intel Core i5 chipset at a fraction of the price, with eight cores of processing power and some pretty incredible horsepower going on “under the hood”.
This is just another step in the right direction for AMD that is enjoying a bit of a renaissance in the PC gaming hardware world. Their graphics cards are beloved by many and now the processors that they are putting out are really starting to get a lot of interest and traction in the gaming community, too.
