Dr. Jessica Respus Launches Life Defender Alert, a Fire Safety Program Designed to Equip Children in the United States of America

Children are often helpless during fire outbreaks. Life Defender Alert program has been created to show children and families how they can reduce their chances of being injured or killed and learn what to do if an emergency strikes.

In 2019, According to the U.S. Fire Administration, children aged 0-14 faced 4.0 deaths per million due to house fires. Ninety percent of all fire-related deaths are due to home fires. In the United States, nearly 488 children (ages 14 and under) die in home fires, and another 116,600 children are injured from a fire/burn-related incident each year. Every day, at least one child dies from a home fire, and another 293 children are injured from fires or burns caused by faulty wiring, candles, cooking equipment, and more.

Dr. Jessica Respus, a school owner in the United States, believes that with the right tools and education, parents can reduce their child’s chances of being injured or killed in a fire and learn what to do if an emergency strikes. On this note, Dr. Respus is pleased to announce the launch of her Life Defender Alert program, which aims to equip children with the knowledge and tools they need to prevent fire hazards and stay safe during fire emergencies.

“The ultimate goal of the Life Defender Alert program is to save the lives of children outside the compounds of school facilities.  Child safety is crucial. The program covers everything from real time fire drill schedulers, digital alarms, family meeting point mapping system, etc. We have plans to take the program nationwide and inside every household for the safety and wellbeing of children.”

School children across the United States often practice exiting their classrooms monthly during fire drills. Hundreds of children can successfully evacuate a large school building in minutes without injury, and a Fire Marshall regularly inspect school buildings. Unfortunately, many of these safety measures do not continue at home.  Parents teach their children how to avoid and escape from strangers, what to do if an unfamiliar person approaches them and how to handle a break-in. However, they are often not taught what to do at home in case of a fire.

The lack of an instructional fire safety facility is most likely to be very costly to build or dedicate a building for teaching children fire safety by simulating fire problems in the home. Similarly, a consistent fire response system making them habitual of response in fire situations is also required.

Furthermore, school shootings—terrifying to students, educators, parents, and communities—always reignite polarizing debates about gun rights and school safety. Since 2018, Education Week has tracked 104 school shootings. Last year saw the most shootings (34), followed by 24 in 2019 and 10 in 2020. The current invention also provides a novel approach where caregivers and first aid teams will be notified that a child is in trouble with the click of a button through the Life Defender Alert app.

The LDA app is also coupled with a secure tracking feature to help emergency personnel quickly locate the child in the event of an emergency.

Undoubtedly, the Life Defender Alert program is an excellent innovation to ensure child safety. For more information, please get in touch with Dr. Respus today.
